TB Watch… Day 936 – No I’m Not Fucking Kidding

Would that I was kidding.

I’ve had a cough since right around the time that I got pregnant. So, let’s say 8 weeks. In those 8 weeks, my cough has gone from productive to non productive to productive to both at the same time. I have coughing fits that last at least a minute. I cannot talk, I can barely breathe, and I always dry heave and gag… but that last part is probably because I knocked the eff up. When I went to see my doc last Wednesday, he said that if the zpack and the cough meds don’t work… the next step is a chest xray for TB.

When I first heard this, I was all, “Pff, this cough is going to go away in a second now that I can take cough suppressants. Its not gonna reach the need to worry about TB again.”

WRONG!

Nothing has worked. I’m still losing sleep. I’m still feeling miserable and the phlegm tastes like pure evil. What the hell!?

So I just called the doc’s office back and let them know that nothing has helped my situation. They’ll have a nurse call me back in a bit and we’ll go from there.

One little tidbit I learned yesterday from playing with Dr. Wikipedia is that apparently, according to the World Health Organization, my course of isoniazid was only 69% effective because I took 6 months of meds instead of 9 months of meds. What the fuck!?

If I have this, and I’ve given it to my asthmatic husband, infant daughter, and weakened immune system mother, I will feel like such shit. Not to mention the hundreds of people I come in contact with every day at work.

😦
